I think that a heavy duty sponge will absorb more water then a normal sponge.

General Plan

There will be different sponges in different containers and the same amount of water to start. after the sponge looks like it cant hold anymore water, the water will be measured and that will determine the amount of water the sponge can absorb. some problems i could help would be movement of the water and have the same temperature for all of the sponges. The reasearcher can help the movement of the sponge by putting the sponge and water in a safe place like by a window. i can help the temperature by putting them all in the same place so they have the same temperature.

Detailed Procedure

1.Get the same size containers
2.Get different types of sponges
3.Put 1 cup of water in each container
4.Put one sponge in each container of water
5.Put the containers in a place where they will be in the same temperature and wont be moved
6.Add more water if needed (1 cup)
7. After a few days measure how much water has been absorbed. ( by squeezing the water out) or ( keeping track of how much u put in)

Results

Researcher found out that my hypothesis was incorrect and the normal sponge absorbs more water.

Conclusion

What type of sponge absorbs more water? the normal sponge absorbs the most water.the reason the researcher knows this is because when they measured the water the sponges said the normal one was .24 and the heavy duty one is .33.If you look at the graph above you will see.

Discussion

The data shows every time the same answer for the amount of water absorbed. The researcher was able to answer the question for my project very easily.The project didnt have any problems but it was very strange to have almost the exact same amount but I guess that a good thing.This project could be advanced by having different variables and making the project what type of liquid is most absorbed so the researcher would get oil, water, vinager and other liquids to see what liquid would be easiest to absorb.

Background Research

The sponges absorbs the liquid because it naturally needs liquids so when it comes in contact with liquids it automatically sucks it up. It was strange to have the normal sponge absorb more water but now it makes sense because the heavy duty sponge had a rough side so it most likely made the sponge not absorb the water and the normal sponge didnt have the rough side so it made it so it could absorb more water. This project could help people that want to know what sponge is better at absorbing more water.

Abstract

This project is about how much water a sponge can absorb. This project turned out to be the opposite of my hypothesis. This project when the way I wanted it to go, it was easy to do and a good project to do on a rainy day. I first had to plan on how I was going to do this project.Then start my research and start my wiki. Then started to finish my wiki and start my poster.my results were the normal sponge absorbs more water then the heavy duty.
